The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be starting from November 22 and it is one of the most fiercely contested rivalries in world cricket, with India and Australia locking horns in a high-stakes battle for supremacy. Named after legendary cricketers Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar, this prestigious Test series is known for its intense competition, remarkable individual performances, and emotional highs and lows. With both teams boasting a rich cricketing legacy and a history of unforgettable encounters, the 2025 edition promises to be no different. As India prepares to face Australia in a five-match series, the pressure is mounting on the Indian team, especially following their unexpected defeat to New Zealand. All eyes will be on Gautam Gambhir, India’s head coach, as he leads the team into this crucial series, with hopes of redeeming their recent setbacks and asserting dominance on home soil.
Will Gautam Gambhir Lead India To Glory?
Ahead of the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has stated that head coach for India Gautam Gambhir will come under a lot of pressure, especially following India’s disastrous defeat in the home series against New Zealand. Talking on a YouTube channel hosted by Jatin Sapru, Harbhajan said that if India had to revive and bounce back against Australia in the five-match Test series, Gambhir would need to maintain a composed temperament and not let any emotions take over.

“It is difficult to run big teams, everyone takes time. If the results were fine, everyone would have said ‘see, Gautam is making the team win’. The series against Australia is important, a lot of things will be tested. Gautam Gambhir who will be sitting outside, his anger and patience will be tested,” Harbhajan Singh said on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube channel.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy: A Test For Gautam Gambhir
“He cannot control anything from the outside, big players get frustrated sitting on the sidelines. This Test, Gambhir needs to pass. The tour is very important for Gambhir. In this country, everyone has an opinion. Gautam Gambhir must be feeling low, he is on the radar. If the series doesn’t go well, Gambhir will be at the receiving end. I want him to stay calm and for the team to perform well,” he added.
India loss to New Zealand, which has been outclassed 3-0 at home, is a historical low for the team and poses enough questions before Gambhir to prove himself at the helm of affairs. Under his management, India kept crumbling in front of Kiwis’ batting and their spin attack. It has raised questions on both the strategy and preparation by the team.
