The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday, December 15, announced the suspension of Shakib Al Hasan. The decision based on the provisions of the ICC’s regulations and now he has been suspended from bowling in all forms of cricket covered by the ICC-affiliated national cricket federations.
Suspension By ICC After ECB Sanction Due To Illicit Bowling Action
The suspension follows an ECB prior ban imposed on Shakib for his illegal bowling action. This month, Shakib underwent an independent test assessment at Loughborough University, which is one of the ICC-approved testing centers. He was reported earlier for a suspect action in the English county match held during the month of September, following which the assessment established that his action was above the acceptable limits, hence suspension in accordance with clause 11.3 of the regulations made by the ICC pertaining to illegal bowling actions.
As per the ICC’s rules, a suspension from any ICC-affiliated board automatically extends to all international matches and domestic competitions governed by other ICC-recognized boards, without requiring further formalities.

Shakib To Undergo Reassessment For Lift Suspension
The BCB has confirmed Shakib will soon get reassessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre. This assessment process would verify if the new variations in his bowling action adhere to the standards prescribed by the ICC, meaning Shakib would be allowed back on the bowling field again.
Bowling remains banned but Shakib can play for all the formats of his team domestically and internationally as a specialist batter.
“Should the results of this [reassessment] analysis clear his action, Shakib will be permitted to bowl in international cricket and in domestic cricket competitions under the jurisdiction of all national cricket federations.”
Tough Season For Bangladeshi All-Rounder
This suspension adds to a rather torrid year for Shakib. Shakib’s cricketing career has remained in limbo as his political role as Member of Parliament in the erstwhile government of Awami League recently dissolved. Shakib had already announced retirement from Test and T20I cricket, although his request for a farewell Test in Dhaka was not granted due to unrest prevailing in the country.
