Though IPL 2026 is still a couple of months away, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are already in the mode of preparation. Arresting their wait to win their first IPL title, the Lucknow-based giants have already done something positive by sending a couple of their Indian players abroad for specialized training. This has happened with the approval of the BCCI.
Cricbuzz has reported the following, in regard to LSG’s plans – LSG’s home fast bowlers would be training in South Africa with their sister franchise, the Durban Super Giants, which competes in the SA20 league. The season in the SA20 league starts on the 26th of December, and the reasoning here is to have these bowlers exposed in top-quality conditions well before the season of the IPL in 2026.
Indian bowlers to depart for Durban
Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, and young pacer Naman Tiwari are set to be part of the first list, although the bowlers are likely to depart for Durban sometime next week. Since these bowlers do not have a BCCI contract or are currently participating in any domestic competition, an official sanction has been obtained by LSG to go ahead with this strategy.
This development comes as a major relief to Avesh and Mohsin, who have been struggling with injuries. Avesh Khan was last seen in action in the IPL, and prior to that, the entire previous season was skipped by the duo. It will be an excellent opportunity to get back into the groove in the ample time provided by the Indian leg of the tour.
Using their worldwide network of franchises effectively, it’s evident that LSG are planning ahead for the long term. This move may just help their pace attack gain some much-needed momentum leading up to IPL 2026, and perhaps get them closer to their first title in the league.
