New Delhi: One the wealthiest cricket governing body in the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has paid 1,159 crore income tax in the 2021-22 fiscal year, which is 37 percent higher than the previous year.

BCCI’s income tax details 

Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written response to questions in the Raja Sabha, provided details of income tax paid by BCCI and income and expenses over the last five years, based on the tax returns filed.

BCCI suffer due to Covid

This income tax hike was followed by an income tax cut in 2019/20, then revenues were hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, while cricket was suspended for months and eventually led to a bio-bubble.

Every FY details

Spending increased due to Income tax paid by BCCI in the financial year 2020-21 amounted to Rs.844.92 million, down from Rs.882.29 crore in the financial year 2019-20. In FY 2019, the Board paid tax of Rs 815.08 crore, up from Rs 596.63 crore in the financial year 2017/18.

In 2021-22, BCCI had a turnover of Rs 7.66 crore and expenditure close to Rs 3.064 crore. Revenue for 2020-21 was Rs 4.735 crore and expenses Rs. 3.08 crore.

This FY details

BCCI’s revenue for the financial year 2021-2022 was Rs 7,606 crore. That year it spent around Rs 3,064 crore. In the previous financial year, the revenue (BCCI Revenue) was close to Rs 4,735 crore and the total expenditure of BCCI in that year was Rs 3,080 crore. At the same time, in 2021-2022, its revenue of BCCI increased to Rs 7,606 crore while its expenditure was Rs 3064 crore.
