Babar Azam made his debut in the Big Bash League with the tournament providing him an opportunity to find back his rhythm back ahead of the T20 World Cup. But he has once again failed to deliver and bring in a turnaround. He was dismissed cheaply at a mere score of 2 runs in the match against Perth Scorchers last Sunday and then the scrutiny intensified when he was dismissed at the score of 9 off 10 balls in the match against Adelaide Strikers at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
England seamer Luke Wood got him out with the second ball of the third over, and he committed an error that led to a catch taken by Matthew Short. This small contribution further sparked doubts regarding Babar’s performance. Interestingly enough, the left-arm pacer who bagged this crucial wicket, Wood, was picked by the Gujarat Titans during the auction for the upcoming IPL and was purchased for INR 75 lakh on Tuesday.

However, after being sent in to bat with the SCG as their playing surface, the Sydney Sixers were able to score a decent 159/9 from 20 overs, although the batting innings did not have much flow. Start-of-inning losses did not go down well with the home side, with Babar going back with a score of 9, and Hughes also departing with only 11 on the board.

The wicket-keeper batsman was bang on target, scoring 46 off 28 deliveries, while Moises Henriques scored some valuable runs to support him with his 20. Jack Edwards scored 32 towards the end and that helped the Sixers to score some important runs to ensure that they reach a respectable figure on the scoreboard.
Although the Sixers managed to make some guest appearances, the team could not really forge any partnerships as the bowling lineup of the Adelaide Strikers continued to dominate the last few overs of the match. Contributions from the lower order did not add much to the team total, yet enough to reach close to the 160-mark.
