The Aussies made history as they registered a two-wicket win against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), taking a dominating lead of 1-0. Australia recorded their 71st win, they leveled with West Indies for the most ODI victories against Men in Green.
New ODI Landmark For Australia
The Baggy Greens have won 71 out of 109 ODIs against Pakistan, while Pakistan has just won 34 times. West Indies took the same number of 71 wins in 137 matches.

The third position is taken by Sri Lanka with 59 victories over Pakistan in 157 matches. While, England and India share the same number of ODI wins against Pakistan at 57, in 92 and 135 matches respectively.

Mitchell Starc Achieves A New Feat
But that was not the only record for Australia on the day. The left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc became the fastest Australian to reach 100 ODI wickets, surpassing the legendary Brett Lee. Starc achieved this phenomenal feat in just 54 innings, one less than Lee’s record of 55 innings. Glenn McGrath is third on the list, having taken 56 innings to reach the same landmark.

Starc took three wickets for a mere 33 runs off 10 overs as he played a great match in the first game of the series. His economy rate is at 3.33. He got his early wickets in the power play by sending back both opening batsmen, Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub, before being able to get Pakistan’s key bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi.
