New Delhi: Australia won against Afghanistan by 4 runs and kept their hopes for semi-finals alive. Though, Rashid Khan has hurt the chances of the hosts by screwing their NRR.

After the win, Australia captain Matthew Wade said, “We gave Stoinis the last over, to have the allrounder to bowl the last over is pretty nerve-wracking. I played him in IPL and I have seen him do it for 3-4 times. But never felt entirely sure at any point. We will stay here tonight and watch the game tomorrow, we will be hoping for an upset.”

“We put ourselves in this position from the get-go, we have been slow in this tournament and hopefully it doesn’t cost us. David was very close to selection tonight and we are very hopeful they [David and Finch] will come through if we get there,” he added.

Afghanistan fight hard against Australia

Australia had put 168 runs on board after put to bat first. Afghanistan bowlers had put a strong fight as they dismissed most of Aussies players cheaply. Mitchell Marsh (45), Glenn Maxwell (54) were the only high scoring batsmen. David Warner and Marcus Stoinis each scored 25 runs and other than these, no player could go even in double digits.
