Asia Cup Trophy Row: BCCI all set to take strict action against Mohsin Naqvi, Afghanistan Cricket Board comes in support of India: Report

There are also reports that the ACB has backed India's stance, especially since relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated over this period.

Amid the controversy over the Asia Cup trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India reportedly prepares to file new complaints against the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, during the ICC meeting in Dubai. According to sources quoted by Telecom Asia Sport, the BCCI has prepared a list of charges questioning Naqvi’s eligibility to hold multiple public and cricket administrative portfolios simultaneously. Apart from PCB, Naqvi is also the president of the ACC, while also serving as the Interior Minister of Pakistan, a combination the BCCI argues is a breach of ICC’s governance norms.

There are also reports that the ACB has backed India’s stance, especially since relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated in the aftermath of a recent military strike that killed three Afghan players, leading to Afghanistan pulling out of the Pakistan tri-series.

While initial reports in the media suggested Naqvi was likely to skip the Dubai meeting because of “domestic political commitments,” subsequent reports have hinted he may make it depending on whether a Senate debate, scheduled for 6–7 November, on constitutional amendments clashes with the ICC schedule.

If Naqvi does attend, the unresolved issue of the Asia Cup trophy is reportedly set to top the agenda for the BCCI. Following Team India’s victory over Pakistan on September 28, the trophy, still lying at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, has not been handed over. Apparently, Indian players declined to accept it from Naqvi left the venue with the trophy.

Pakistani media outlets have reported that Naqvi later offered to host a trophy presentation ceremony in Dubai on November 5, but the BCCI rejected the idea and warned that it would escalate the matter at the ICC board meeting.
