The Asia Cup final was on September 30 where India defeated Pakistan and clinched victory but the controversy heated up when India refused to take the trophy from ACC president and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. Following this Naqvi also ran away with the trophy denying India the perfect celebration. Since then, the trophy is locked up with no solution in site despite the two boards conducting a meeting.
A separate PTI report also suggested that the BCCI is backed by Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the ACC and has turned down the council’s proposal to collect the trophy from Dubai. The situation remains unresolved, earlier there was also a cricbuzz report which stated that both Mohsin Naqvi, ACC and BCCI will be having another meeting to reach a solution.
India defeated Pakistan three times in a row in the same tournament but one thing that was common was controversies that kept on increasing between the two nations. First India refused to have a handshake with Pakistani players in first match which triggered both PCB and the players. In the second match, Pakistani players made some very unnecessary gestures related to ‘Operation Sindoor’ and in the third match Mohsin Naqvi ran away with the trophy.
