Sri Lanka won the match against Hong Kong in Asia Cup 2025

Sri Lanka avoided a shocking upset against Hong Kong in their Asia Cup 2025 group-stage match, with Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga playing very crucial roles in the thrilling chase.

Nissanka anchored the innings as he hit 68 off 44 deliveries despite his catch being dropped three times. Sri Lanka was struggling to find momentum in the match but it was only Nissanka's half-century that shined and continuing his strong run. Earlier, Hong Kong posted a competitive target of 149/4, which was possible because of Anshy Rath (48) and captain's Nizakat Khan's unbeaten 52 off 38 balls.

After the win, skipper Charith Asalanka reflected on the match and highlighted the need to improve for Sri Lanka.

"In that moment, I think our heart was in our mouths. Few areas I am really disappointed about. First three overs when we were bowling and then the 16th over, we lost a couple of wickets and then lost my wicket. In the shorter format, these things can happen but it cannot keep happening consistently. We have to analyze it and improve ourselves."

"(On the score) Felt confident because the pitch was looking good. Credit goes to them, they batted really well and we bowled badly in the first three overs. This is not the way we wanted to play. When we are playing these sides, there is a pressure always. But we are professionals and as professionals, we have to do much better than this."
