Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lanka registered a thrilling victory in against Bangladesh in Colombo on Saturday by 26 runs. In the Super 4 match, Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 257 runs in 50 overs. Bangladesh team, which came to chase the target, was all out for 236 runs in 48.1 overs.
With this victory, Sri Lanka made a big record in its name.
The second team to register the most consecutive wins
Sri Lanka became the second team in the world to register consecutive wins in ODIs. The team made a record of winning 13 consecutive ODI matches. Now they are only behind Australia, which has the record of winning 21 consecutive matches. Sri Lanka broke the records of South Africa and Pakistan. Both the teams had won 12-12 consecutive matches.
Actually, Sri Lanka had made a winning start against Afghanistan on 4 June 2023 in Hambantota. After winning 2 matches against Afghanistan, they registered wins against UAE, Oman, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
With this, Sri Lanka also became the first team to dismiss the opponents in the most number of consecutive ODI innings. Sri Lanka has done this 13 times so far in 2023. Whereas Australia has won 10 from 2009-2010 and South Africa has won 10 from 2013-2014. Sri Lanka also held the record of winning the most matches against a single opponent in the ODI Asia Cup. Sri Lanka has won 13 out of 15 matches against Bangladesh.
