New Delhi: Despite the fact that his number in One Day International is not good enough as compared to T20I, India’s swashbuckling batter Suryakumar Yadav got the selector node for the upcoming Asia Cup. On Monday, the Board of Control of India (BCCI) released the 17-member squad and in most shocking move, Suryakumar was included in the squad over Sanju Samson. This is most trending debate on the micro-blogging platform X (Twitter), fans are phrasing it as Mumbai Indians lobby.
ODI vs T20I comparison
Suryakumar Yadav, the No. 1 batter in the ICC T20 rankings, has also got a place in the team. In such a situation, Surya’s ODI World Cup appearance is also almost certain. But it is worth seeing here that Surya may be top-class batter in T20, but his bat has remained silent in ODIs.
Surya’s flop show in ODI
Surya’s overall record in ODIs is also very poor. He has played 26 matches so far and has been able to put only 2 fifty. Leaving all this, if we look at his record this year too, then his average in the last 10 ODIs has been big disappointment. Also, he has made an embarrassing world record in ODIs this year. In spite of all this, if he has got a place in the team, then it is a matter of surprise for the fans.
Embarrassing record of Suryakumar
Surya’s performance in ODI is not up to the mark in 2023, scoring just 127 runs at the average of 14.11. Meanwhile, Surya was dismissed for a golden duck (first ball of the match) in 3 consecutive ODIs and made a very embarrassing record. Surya is the only player in the world, who has been dismissed for a golden duck for three consecutive times in a three-match series.
Along with this, Surya is the 7th Indian to get out on consecutive golden ducks in any three ODIs. Before him, 6 Indians including batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble and Zaheer Khan have made the embarrassing record. In 1994, Sachin Tendulkar has also been dismissed on duck in three consecutive matches.

Anil Kumble (1996)
Zaheer Khan (2003–04)
