The Australia squad for fourth Test of Ashes has been announced and off-spinner Todd Murphy is all set for a return at the MCG as he has been added to the squad along with fast bowler Jhye Richardson. Murphy was preferred ahead of Matt Kuhenemann and Corey Rocchiccioli as a replacement of Nathan Lyon.
Nathan Lyon is not a part of this squad as he will be undergoing a surgery after seriously injuring his right-hamstring while was diving to stop a boundary on the final day of third Test. Cricket Australia has also confirmed that Lyon's tear requires an operation and this has ruled him out for an extended period.

Steve Smith will also be taking over the captaincy as Pat Cummins will sit out for the Boxing Day clash as a part of his workload management despite collecting six wickets on his return from a back issue in the third Test. With Australia already holding a commanding 3–0 lead, Cummins’ availability for the Sydney Test also remains uncertain.

Murphy can be the right replacement for Nathan Lyon as he has been performing well and also featured as frontline spinner for Australia A matches against the Lions, returning figures of 2–7 and 1–57, including the dismissal of England Test squad member Jacob Bethell.
