The Tendulkar family now has a reason to celebrate. Arjun Tendulkar, cricket great Sachin Tendulkar’s son, gets engaged to Saaniya Chandok, granddaughter of successful Mumbai businessman Ravi Iqbal Ghai. The small ceremony was recently conducted in the presence of only close relatives and friends, being a discreet yet significant event for both families.

A Cricketing Journey in Progress
At the age of 25, Arjun is consistently making a name for himself in cricket. A left-arm pacer and useful lower-order bat, he now plays for Goa in domestic cricket and is a member of the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Having made his career start for Mumbai during the 2020/21 season, Arjun then moved to Goa, where he made his first-class and List A debuts. He has played 17 games of red-ball cricket, with 532 runs, including a century and two fifties, and taking 37 wickets. His IPL career thus far has included five appearances, with three wickets and a top figure of 1/9.
With the Ranji Trophy and crowded domestic season on the horizon, Arjun will again be playing for Goa, while carrying on with his role at Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
Who is Saaniya Chandok?
While Arjun’s sporting background is well documented, Saaniya has stayed beneath the radar for the most part. She is the granddaughter of Ravi Iqbal Ghai, the head of Graviss Hospitality, a family name that goes hand-in-hand with the hospitality and food chain.
The Ghai business heritage goes back to I.K. Ghai, the vision behind the legendary Kwality Ice Cream brand. The family diversified its presence globally over time, with interests in the Middle East and other regions. Graviss Hospitality now has in its kitty the InterContinental hotel in Mumbai and the hit dessert brand Brooklyn Creamery.
Saaniya herself appears as a Director and Designated Partner of Mr. Paws Pet Spa & Store LLP, the Mumbai-based pet care start-up. An Instagram post also gives us a clue about her professional interest – she is a veterinary technician, having done the ABC programme under WVS.
A Private Celebration, A Public Interest
Even though the marriage was a low-key event, the news has made much ado in both cricket and business communities. As the Tendulkar and Ghai families unite, it’s the marriage of two celebrity worlds – sport and hospitality – brought together by a personal connection.
For the time being, the couple is minding its business low-key, with Arjun busy with the upcoming cricket season and Saaniya busy working in the pet care and hospitality industry. But for Tendulkar family fans, this good news puts a sweet page in a tale already filled with success and heritage.
