The Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene announced on Sunday that Jasprit Bumrah will play in the IPL against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Wankhede Stadium on April 7. The ICC Champions Trophy caused Jasprit Bumrah to miss action for team India before he planned to rejoin his Mumbai Indians teammates during their third game. He officially linked up with the Mumbai Indians team on that Sunday. The BCCI medical team at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru granted medical clearance which allowed the world no.1 pacer to resume playing.

“He is available, he is training today, so he should play,” said Mahela Jayawardene at the pre-match press conference. “He arrived last night, he had his sessions with NCA (now Centre of Excellence) to finalise that, he’s been handed over to our physios. He’s bowling today, so all good,” added the former Sri Lankan skipper.
What had caused Jasprit Bumrah to become injured?
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury when he played for India against Australia during the fifth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in January in Sydney. Medical experts recommended Bumrah take a one-month rest period before commencing his rehabilitation exercise at the COE.
The comeback of Bumrah provides major support to Mumbai Indians because they have already lost three games from their initial four matchups. The Mumbai Indians secured their lone winning performance of IPL 2025 when they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders during their home fixture.
The absence of Bumrah has provided an opportunity for Mumbai Indians to develop potential Indian bowlers Ashwani Kumar and Satyanarayana Raju. Ashwani Kumar made his most impressive IPL appearance by picking up four wickets on his opening match.
