Coco Gauff announced that she is splitting with her coach, Brad Gilbert, following a year filled with grand success after they had teamed up to win a Grand Slam title. They confirmed this news in a mutual message on Gauff and Gilbert’s social media accounts.
The 20-year-old American had recently slipped to No. 6 in the WTA rankings after losing form. This is after a disappointing performance at the 2023 U.S. Open, where Gauff witnessed a tougher defeat to Emma Navarro in the fourth round that went down in shambles with 19 double faults. The loss on September 1 marked another blow for her.

There, after falling in the first round at Wimbledon last July, was where Gauff’s meteoric rise began, at least in part thanks to her work with Gilbert and Pere Riba, with whom she did not work within 2023. By last season, Gauff was having the season of a lifetime, going 22-1 and winning titles in Washington, Cincinnati, and her first Grand Slam at the US Open when she was still just a teenager.
As Gauff moves on to this new phase of her life, fans will eagerly wait and see how she will bounce back and what the future holds for her.
Gilbert posted a thank-you Wednesday on social media to Gauff “and the entire team for an amazing summer run in 2023 and 14 months of incredible team effort.”
“Coco, at just 20 years young, your future is incredibly bright, and I wish you nothing but continued success ahead,” wrote Gilbert, a former pro who has worked with players such as Andre Agassi, Andy Murray, and Andy Roddick in the past. “I’m excited for the next chapter in my coaching career.”
