On June 7, Coco Gauff made history by winning her first-ever French Open women’s singles title. The 21-year-old American tennis star made an incredible comeback to beat the World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka, in a thrilling final on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Gauff won the match with scores of 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4.

A Big Milestone for Gauff

This win is a huge moment for Gauff. Back in 2022, when she was only 18, she reached the French Open final but lost to Iga Swiatek, who was World No. 1 at the time. This time, Gauff made sure to take her chance and win the title.

The French Open victory is Gauff’s second Grand Slam title. She won her first major at the 2023 US Open. Interestingly, this final was a rematch of that US Open, where Gauff also beat Sabalenka. With this win, Sabalenka missed her chance to get revenge for that earlier loss.

Sweet Revenge and Strong Record

This win also helped Gauff get back at Sabalenka for beating her earlier this year in the final of the Madrid Open. With this latest victory, Gauff now leads 6-5 in their head-to-head matches, proving she has the upper hand.

First Clay Title This Year

The win is extra special because it’s Gauff’s first title on clay this season. She had reached the finals in both the Rome Open and the Madrid Open but lost both times. So, winning the French Open was like a “third time lucky” moment for her on clay.

Overall, this French Open title is a huge achievement for Coco Gauff and shows she’s one of the top stars in women’s tennis.
