The 20-year old German Grandmaster Vincet Keymer has clinched the title of Chennai Grand Masters 2025 with a round still left to be played. He went on to make history by becoming the sole champion in the tournament. The 20-year old sealed the title after draw against Dutch Grandmaster Jorden Van Foreest in Round 8.
The result confirmed his dominating lead and his stellar performance helped him secure a spot in World’s Top 10 live ratings for the first time in his career. The round 8 of the Masters section witnessed all the games ending in a draw keeping the battle for second and third place undecided.

After the win, Keymer opened up about the victory and said: “I am very happy with the tournament. Winning my games in the first rounds made me self-confident and helped me to be focused, concentrated, and calm. Entering the Top 10 in live rating is a milestone I have wanted to reach for a long time, and I am very glad that the hard work finally paid off.”
“Winning the tournament and breaking into the Top 10 at the same time is fantastic for me and truly special. However, the tournament will continue tomorrow. That is why I prefer to remain focused and keep the tension for the last round. I also really want to stay in the Top 10, meaning either drawing or winning tomorrow’s game.” Keymer added

India Grandmasters Arjun Erigaisi and Karthikeyan Murali will be be facing off which makes them very much in contention for the podium spots. In the Challengers category, Grandmaster Pranesh M took a lead with 6.5 points and defeated GM Harika Dronavalli. This is followed by GM Abhimanyu Puranik and GM Leon Luke Mendonca as they trail by just half a point due to their respective win and draw in Round 8.
Grandmaster Adhiban Baskaran and Grandmaster Aryan Chopra have also kept the competition intense as they head into the final day.
