Champions Trophy 2025: ‘Safety Concerns’ For Indian Players, Ex-Pakistan Player Advises PCB To Opt For Hybrid Model

The hosting venue for Champions Trophy in 2025 still remains uncertain, primarily with Pakistan because of the ongoing debate on whether India will go there or not. All the bilateral cricket between the two countries came to a grinding halt since 2013, thus completely stopping the direct competition between these two neighbors.
Indian Team's Participation In Champions Trophy 2025
While the recent participation of Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India started debates on a possible mutual series, complications arising from it have raised many eyebrows if India will be visiting Pakistan too. Preliminary suggestions included holding India's matches in Lahore, which borders Pakistan, as a means to assuage logistical complications, but nothing has been conclusively decided regarding it. If the latest reports are to be believed, the BCCI is not very keen on sending the national team to Pakistan because of the recent political tensions between the two nations and also the security aspects. Therefore, a hybrid model has been mooted in its place, quite similar to what was done during the 2023 Asia Cup.

The Champions Trophy matches will remain partly in Pakistan, while those of India can be scheduled to take place at neutral venues, probably outside the subcontinent.
'Indian Team Should Not Go To Pakistan': Says Danish Kaneria
Former Pakistan off-spinner Danish Kaneria has said that seeing the situation in Pakistan, he thinks it will not be right on the part of the Indian team to embark on the journey to Pakistan under present circumstances. He further went on to suggest a hybrid model and urged Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to consider all the aspects and discuss with ICC before finalizing any decision.
"Looking at the situation in Pakistan, I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan and Pakistan should think about it and then the ICC will make its decision and most likely, it will be a hybrid model, it will played in Dubai," Kaneria said while speaking to Sports Tak.
"The safety of the players is the first priority. Respect is the second priority. There are many things. I think BCCI is doing a great job. I think all the countries will accept the final decision. I think it will be a hybrid model," Kaneria added.
