Alexander Zverev’s journey to the US Open has been left in doubt after a worrying conclusion to his semi-final tie with Carlos Alcaraz at the Cincinnati Open. The No. 3-ranked German star battled his way against Alcaraz, the world No. 2, but indications of physical discomfort were already apparent long before the match was over. Alcaraz, however, provided a gesture of solidarity by sending a get-well message to Zverev on the TV camera following the match. He admitted that the victory tasted bitter because his opponent was obviously disturbed.

Before that, Alcaraz had a five-match winning streak against the Italian. Tennis fans are again preparing for yet another thrilling installment between the sport’s current number one and two contenders.

As both superstars are entering the Cincinnati final and have big singles commitments, their mixed doubles participation might be reconsidered.
