As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 approaches, teams have finalized their squads for the highly coveted trophy in what is considered the wealthiest cricket tournament globally. While some squads remain largely unchanged from the previous edition, certain teams made significant splashes in the IPL 2024 auction held last year.
Aakash Chopra said – “This is totally rumours & Not true at all on Virat Kohli’s place in T20 WC 2024. I mean how, who’s spreading this rumours. And I heard slow pitches didn’t suit him. Slow pitches will suit Virat Kohli the most,He is actually ‘The King’ on those slow pitches”. pic.twitter.com/lGpK8KC3Hr

Notably, Australians Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were acquired by SunRisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders for amounts exceeding Rs 20 crore each, marking the first time the Rs 20 crore mark was surpassed.
Discussing the substantial salaries in the IPL, former Indian cricket team standout Robin Uthappa remarked that if there were no salary cap, as many as 10 Indian players could potentially earn over Rs 100 crore. Presently, the ten franchises are allotted a purse of Rs 100 crore.
“If you have open auction, and there is no limit on purse. Suppose the purse is 1000 crore or 500 crore, we have 10 players who can get over 100 crore. Jasprit Bumrah. Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma. Hardik Pandya also. Ravndra Jadeja, KL Rahul. Ruturaj Gaikwad definitely between Rs 80 and 100 crore. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal also above Rs 100 crore,” Robin Uthappa said on News24 Sports.
Uthappa, who has represented teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, was also a member of the Indian cricket team that clinched the 2007 T20 World Cup.
