Borussia Dortmund has decided to let go of their head coach, Nuri Sahin, after they lost 2-1 to Bologna in the Champions League. The club said they no longer trust his leadership. Even though Dortmund made it to the final last season, they have been having a tough time this year, losing four games in a row in all competitions. They are currently in 10th place in the Bundesliga, 20 points behind the top team, Bayern Munich. Sahin became head coach this summer after working as an assistant to Edin Terzic during last season’s unexpected success in the Champions League. However, due to the team’s poor performance, he has now been fired.
Dortmund Lose Faith In Sahin Amid Struggles
Borussia Dortmund’s sporting CEO, Lars Ricken, said the club no longer believed Nuri Sahin could help them reach their goals, which led to his dismissal after the 2-1 loss to Bologna. Ricken shared his disappointment, saying they had hoped to work with Sahin for a long time. Sahin’s exit adds to Dortmund’s history of frequent coaching changes, with eight head coaches since Jurgen Klopp left in 2015. Only Lucien Favre stayed for more than two years. The team, currently 10th in the Bundesliga, has had a tough time under Sahin, especially in away games, losing nine out of 15 matches. Despite their struggles, Dortmund still have a chance to advance in the Champions League, even though they are 13th in the standings.

Search For A Successor Begins
Dortmund will face Werder Bremen on Saturday, haven’t announced a new coach yet but said they will share more news soon. German media are guessing who might take over, with names like Erik ten Hag, who used to manage Manchester United, and Roger Schmidt, who coached Benfica, being mentioned. However, Edin Terzic, who has managed Dortmund before and is currently without a job, is reportedly not in the running. Nuri Sahin, a former Dortmund player who played 274 games for the club, said he was sorry for not meeting the team’s goals but wished them the best. He started his coaching career at Antalyaspor and came back to Dortmund as an assistant coach in 2023. The club has a history of giving leadership roles to former players, with Lars Ricken and sporting director Sebastian Kehl also having strong connections to the team.
