“Being locked in a restaurant in Bondi was scary,” Vaughan wrote on X. “Now home safe. Thanks so much to the emergency services and the guy who confronted the terrorist. Thoughts with all who have been affected.”

New South Wales Police have confirmed that the attack, described as a “terrorist incident”, took place around 6.47pm local time at Archer Park, a grassy area near Bondi Beach. Two gunmen opened fire during an event marking the beginning of Hanukkah, with authorities stating the attack was aimed at Sydney’s Jewish community.

At least 12 people, including children, have lost their lives, while 29 others were taken to hospital. Among the injured are two police officers, both reported to be in serious condition. One of the alleged attackers has also been confirmed dead.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed the nation following the tragedy, calling it a “vile act of violence and hate” and a clear act of terrorism.

“An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian,” Albanese said. “This is an act of evil antisemitism that has struck at the heart of our nation.”

As investigations continue, tributes are pouring in from across the world, with the cricketing community and wider sporting fraternity standing in solidarity with the victims, their families, and the people of Australia.
