Young 19-year-old Australian opener Sam Konstas treated Jasprit Bumrah very differently unlike he is played by other batters in the world. Bumrah is currently among the best bowlers of modern-day cricket and made batting look really difficult throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The latter picked up 32 wickets from five games and was named as the Player of the Series. However, during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, ever since Konstas made his Test debut, the latter started to attack Bumrah and played some unorthodox shots such as ramp, reverse sweep and others. He also got engaged in a shoulder barge incident with Virat Kohli whereas exchanging words with Indian players throughout the fourth and fifth Test of the series.

Australian head coach Andrew McDonald believed that Sam Konstas was intimidated by the Indian players. However, former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg believes that McDonald’s statement was a bit too far. He said on his YouTube channel, “The coach coming out and saying that the Indian players were intimidating Konstas and there is a mental health issue there, I think that is taking it a little bit too far. If you want to say a few words to the opposition team, you want to hit balls for four, walk down and give the bowler a serve while he is walking back to the mark, you are going to have to sit there and cop it on the way back as well.”
