Big Bash Draft: Top English Players Among The List Of Players

In the Big Bash League draft held on Sunday, September 1, England players were highly sought after, with 14 of them being chosen across four rounds. Notably, Pakistan’s Usama Mir and Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain were the only Asian players selected.

The first round saw four England players and three New Zealand players picked. England opener Ben Duckett was the top choice, selected by Melbourne Stars, while James Vince was the second pick, retained by Sydney Sixers. Laurie Evans joined Melbourne Renegades, and Sydney Thunder chose New Zealand quick Lockie Ferguson. Shai Hope reunited with Ricky Ponting at Hobart Hurricanes, and Jamie Overton was picked by Adelaide Strikers. Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers chose their pre-signed players Colin Munro and Finn Allen, respectively.

In the second round, Melbourne Stars picked their pre-signed player Tom Curran. England all-rounder Jacob Bethell was chosen by Melbourne Renegades, while Ollie Pope, Chris Jordan, and Sam Billings were selected by Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes, and Sydney Thunder, respectively. Perth Scorchers opted to pass in this round, and Sydney Sixers selected their pre-signed player Akeal Hosein.

During the third round, Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers both chose to pass. Adelaide Strikers picked West Indian Fabian Allen, while Hobart Hurricanes also passed. Sydney Thunder selected Sherfane Rutherford, and Melbourne Renegades chose their pre-signed player Tim Seifert. Melbourne Stars picked Usama Mir.

In the fourth round, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, and Sydney Thunder all decided to pass. Hobart Hurricanes made the final pick of the draft, choosing Bangladesh legspinner Rishad Hossain. Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder also passed, while Brisbane Heat selected Tom Alsop. Perth Scorchers signed Keaton Jennings, and Sydney Sixers made the last pick with Jafer Chohan.
