England have claimed the first Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy that took place at Leeds. India posted a target of 371 for the hosts, but it seems like it was not enough to restrict the English batters from breaching that score. Ben Duckett (149) emerged as the conductor of the innings by slamming a well-deserved century. KL Rahul and India’s deputy captain Rishabh Pant’s efforts were all in vain. Rahul’s 137 runs took India to a reasonable position after the first innings, but Ben Duckett’s batting prowess overshadowed his efforts.

3 Centuries, Still Fell Short
In the first innings, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal came to bat first after England won the toss and opted to field. They gave a pretty decent start of 91 runs when Rahul threw his wicket on just 42 runs. Jaiswal went on to make a century. He was followed by Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant to complete a ton. 3 Centurions took India’s score to 471 runs. England Skipper Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue took 4 wickets each, while Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir claimed 1 wicket each.
Ben Duckett gave a brilliant start by smashing 62 runs in the first innings. Harry Brook made a lucky 99 by being dropped twice. Ollie Pope, coming at number 3, made a stunning century in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah’s fifer restricted the English batters to 465 runs with India starting the second innings with a 6-run lead.
England Completely Dominates 2nd Session
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal started the innings with stability, but Jaiswal lost his wicket early without creating an impact. Centurion in the first innings, India captain Shubman Gill also went back to the pavilion without much resistance. It was Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul’s twin centuries that took India to a score of 364, giving England a target of 371 to chase. Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue bagged 3 wickets each while skipper Ben Stokes could only claim 1 wicket in the second innings.
India’s hope was shattered after Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett gave England a start of 188 runs as openers. Ben Duckett’s 149 runs and Zak Crawley’s 65 made it comfortable for England to claim a comfortable victory over the Indians. Star performers of the first innings, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook, departed for 8 and 0 runs respectively. World number 1 Joe Root also contributed with a stunning half century after being dismissed for just 28 runs in the first innings.
