BCCI Central Contract 2025: In a much-anticipated opening match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on March 22 where, the Bengaluru-franchise led by Rajat Patidar clinched the victory by 7 wickets at the Eden Gardens. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt laid the foundation in the run chase which paved the way for RCB.
Rajat Patidar’s Tactical Captaincy
Yesterday’s match grabbed a lot of eye balls for the glimpse of star batter Virat Kohli and he didn’t disappointed and played a magnificent match-winning knock of 59* which included 4 boundaries and 3 sixes. Apart from all this, one of the most highlighting thing in the match was Rajat Patidar’s captaincy.

Opting to bowl on a very good surface of Eden Gardens, after Quinton de Kock’s dismissal, the KKR batters led by the captain Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine attacked RCB bowlers and smashed them all-over the ground. After seeing the situation, RCB skipper introduced Krunal Pandya in the middle and eventually the move worked as he removed Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, and Rinku Singh which derailed KKR’s momentum.
In the second innings, Patidar even played a brilliant cameo of 34 runs off just 16 balls which included 5 boundaries and a six. Patidar played spin brilliantly and helped Kohli in the middle before getting dismissed.

Question Arises On His Contract
Currently Patidar is in Grade C of the current central contract. Though he had been a part of the Indian squad earlier, Patidar’s prospects in the side have been limited, and since there were no regular appearances in all three formats last season, his expulsion from the central contract looks inevitable. Till now, he has played 3 Tests and 1 ODI for India. After his yesterday’s cameo innings, management might back him up and retain him in the upcoming contract.
