But the question is, what does Shreyas Iyer need to do to become part of the elite A+ Grade club along with Virat and Rohit?
Consistency In All Formats
To become an A+ Grade player, Shreyas Iyer will have to prove himself consistent in all the game’s formats. Till now, Iyer has provided glimpses of brilliance in ODIs and T20Is, but he will have to secure a position in all three formats — Test cricket, ODIs, and T20Is. Kohli and Rohit have made themselves part of the A-Grade because they are consistent across the formats, and most importantly in Tests, as Tests are taken to be the ultimate measure for the all-round capability of a player.
Match-Winning Performances
Another important aspect in achieving the A+ Grade is the capability to produce match-winning performances under pressure. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are famous for their capability to perform in clutch situations, whether it’s taking India to victory in ICC tournaments or producing a match-defining knock in crucial situations.
Shreyas Iyer has given hints of his potential to win matches for India, particularly in ODIs, where his presence in the middle order has been a key stabilizing force. But in order to position himself firmly at A+ Grade level, Iyer will have to demonstrate the capacity to rescue games in crisis situations on a regular basis.

Leadership Skills
While Shreyas Iyer has led his previous IPL team (KKR) to win it’s 3rd title. Having a leadership position in the national team, even if it is as vice-captain or in a senior capacity, may also enhance his prospects of being promoted to the A+ Grade. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been the principal leaders of Indian cricket, and their leadership has been a key reason for their A+ Grade status.
ICC And IPL Performances
Although performances on the international scene are important, players must demonstrate their capability at home leagues such as the IPL as well. Iyer’s outstanding performances during the IPL have assisted him in building his career as a marquee player. He will need to keep topping the IPL seasons to develop his portfolio, however. Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s consistencies in the IPL have played a big part in maintaining them as top-flight contract players too.
Fitness And Longevity
The A+ Grade tag isn’t all about performances; fitness also comes into play in remaining at the pinnacle. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have always been at the top of their fitness levels throughout their careers, enabling them to play at the top level consistently. Likewise, Iyer must see to it that his fitness remains at the highest level and that he is able to cope with the demands of all three formats for a prolonged period of time.
Contribution In Big Tournaments
Last but not least, Shreyas Iyer’s performances during ICC events and major tournaments will be vital. Kohli and Rohit have been the mainstays of India’s efforts during World Cups, Champions Trophy, and other ICC events. Their presence in major games, especially in ICC events, has been a determining success factor in their A+ Grade contracts.
