“Jaker Ali suffered a concussion while practicing batting on Sunday,” Bangladesh’s physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said. “His medical history has concussions in the past, he hasn’t even regained his fullest potential and he needs time to recover. According to clinical examination, he will miss the second Test.”

Jaker, making his debut Test appearance, scored fifty for South Africa in the second innings. He has further experience with 19 T20Is to his name as well, including a first earlier this year.

His brilliant performances made him get the first call-up to the national team. He played all matches against Sylhet Division and scored 118 in the last innings recently.

Mahidul, an accomplished player of first-class cricket, has featured prominently in Dhaka Division while one game was seen by cricket fans when Bangladesh A squared off against Pakistan A last August.

Apart from that, the selectors added paceman Khaled Ahmed, who replaced Taskin Ahmed.
