Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or player, thinks the prestigious award should be given to a member of the Champions League-winning team. At an event in Munich, the day before the Nations League final match, Ronaldo pointed out that the outcome of a team plays a big part in deciding who gets the Ballon d’Or award.
“In my opinion, the winner should be part of a team that has won trophies. The Ballon d’Or winner should come from a team that has won the Champions League,” the 40-year-old forward told reporters.

Since 1956, France Football magazine has been presenting the Ballon d’Or each year to the best footballer from the past year.
There is now more pressure for Ousmane Dembélé to win the 2022 Ballon d’Or after PSG won the Champions League game by a record 5-0. Lamine Yamal, at 17, has boosted expectations for the Magnus Award after impressing in Spain’s victory and leading some people to think he might become the history’s youngest winner of the prize.
Even after winning the Ballon d’Or five times, from 2008 to 2017, Ronaldo still trails Lionel Messi, who has gained the trophy a record eight times. For a whole decade, the two icons held the top spot as Academy Awards winners.
