Indian badminton player Jwala Gutta is winning hearts not just on the court but off it as well. The Arjuna awardee star, who is a new mother, has taken a remarkable step by donating breast milk to help save the lives of premature and critically ill babies. Gatta visits a government hospital every day to donate 600 ml breast milk as a part of donor milk drive initiative. Through this, she aims to feed breast milk to babies who are left without mothers, are premature or critically ill infants in hospitals.
Reportedly, over the past four months, Gatta has donated 30 litres of breast milk till now. Her move has been widely appreciated for its objectives on social media. Notably, breast milk, enriched with vial nutrients is very important for all the babies, and especially for those who are born too early or are very sick. Due to some reasons, many women don’t lactate properly, resulting in lack of breast milk to babies. In such cases, donor breast milk comes into play as an aid. There are Human milk banks that collect and provide this milk to babies in need. Gatta’s efforts are part of that initiative only.
Announcing her move, Gatta wrote on X, “Breast milk saves lives. For premature and sick babies, donor milk can be life changing. If you’re able to donate, you could be a hero to a family in need. Learn more, share the word, and support milk banks! 💜 #BreastMilkDonation #DonateMilk #InfantHealth.”
Through her post, Gatta highlighted the importance of breast milk and how it can save lives, calling the donor milk as “life changing.” She also emphasised over the significance of breast milk donation, by urging mothers to donate if they can. Gatta called for support to milk banks and asked everyone to be educated on this topic and come forward to help.
