India starts the home season on a busy note with the first of two Tests against Bangladesh in Chennai from September 19. While most eyes are currently on the two Test series, on Bangladesh and New Zealand, there are also eager eyes coning in on the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy later in the year. The five-match series against Australia, to begin on November 22 in Perth promises to renew one of cricket’s most intense rivalries.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: Likely To Be A Key Player In Border-Gavaskar Trophy

India sees this series as absolutely crucial for the World Test Championship and, more importantly, for securing the third successive Test series win on Australian soil. Australian cricket stars were asked about which Indian player they think will make headlines and gain popularity in the coming years.

The pool of talent from India continues to deepen and the two names have been coming up are of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Both youngsters have already made significant impacts on the international stage and have been highlighted by the Australian cricketers while discussing recently on Star Sports.

Jaiswal: ‘The Next Generation Superstar’

It’s hard to find anyone who would not know who Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Marnus Labuschagne are-high-profile Australian cricketers who have all hailed the skillful batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. To be particular, Labuschagne was appreciative of the left-handed opener who thinks Jaiswal seems to be a “proper cricketer across all formats”.

“Jaiswal could be a generational superstar,” Smith said. “Jaiswal’s probably the next big superstar, I think,” added Starc.

“Well, I think Jaiswal’s, yeah, the next cricket superstar to come from India,” said Carey.

“Next generation superstar, I think… Jaiswal,” said Hazlewood.

“I believe Jaiswal will be the next generation superstar,” added Lyon.

Gill And Jaiswal: Emerging Talents For India

The other most talked batter about of these is Shubman Gill, who has already caught the eye of players like Cameron Green and Travis Head, who believe he will one day assume leadership responsibilities for India.

“I think Shubman Gill has the potential to become a superstar,” said Green.

“Shubman Gill, I think, yeah, I think he just needs more… As his career goes on, he’s ridiculous. Some of the innings I’ve seen, he makes bowling look slow. Plays off the front and back foot well, plays spin well. Yeah, Shubman’s going to be an absolute freak,” said Head.

Even at 24, Gill has played in 25 Tests, with four centuries and six half-centuries, which has seen him cement his place pretty much in the top order. His first-class record is similarly impressive with 12 centuries- and his record is impressively consistent.
