Australian Cricket Legend Celebrates 44th Birthday, How Former RCB Star Battled With MATCH FIXING Allegations?

Former Australia legend Shane Watson turned 44 today.

Former Australia legend Shane Watson turned 44 today. Being an integral part of the Australian dugout for many years, Watson has always been respected for his game values and incredible contribution to the Aussie side. With over 300 international appearances, around 11,000 international runs, including 291 wickets, Watson adds great value to any side. He was also part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Rajasthan Royals, and the Chennai Super Kings’ campaigns in the IPL. And sticking to his values and devotion to the game, Watson, when approached by a spot fixer for the Ashes 2010, quickly reported the issue to the Australian manager.

2010 Ashes

Watson disclosed that he was approached by a suspicious figure during the Australia tour of England to partake in the 2010 Ashes series, who promised to give information, along with providing access as an insider. The tactic occurred in one of the hotels and was reported by the Cricket Australia anti-corruption department. Watson reported the incident immediately, according to the protocol of the ICC anti-corruption. They did not take any further action against him because he had done the right thing.

2013 IPL Scandal

Australia’s Shane Watson’s name surfaced twice in the spot fixing scandal, once for the Ashes 2010, and other during the 2013 IPL scandal where the bookies tried to rope in Watson via Ajit Chandila, a former player of the Rajasthan Royals, to which the latter denied and told the illegal bookmakers that it was difficult to include such a high-profile player and thus the attempt was abandoned and there was no evidence of Watson’s involvement in the spot fixing plan which led to Watson’s proving in not involving in any wrongdoing.

Watson Remained High in Integrity

Such incidents serve as evidence of Watson as a professional and a man with integrity, and I think that explains the reason why he has been revered as a cricketer and as a mentor/coach even after his retirement. Watson has not been scared to voice out his support in upholding integrity in the game of cricket. He has also emphasized in the media the fact that the players should be enlightened on how to deal with the dubious approaches and ensure that the image of the sport is at its best.
