Australia created a new record for T20 cricket in a dazzling display of hitting and accuracy in the first T20 International between Australia and Scotland at The Grange in Edinburgh on September 4, 2024. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh were the top players for Australia as they thrashed Scotland. Travis Head was the star, smacking 80 runs off just 25 balls. The attacking innings also showcased his aggression as a batsman, as he equaled the record for the fastest fifty by an Australian in T20Is. Head’s fifty came off just 17 balls and equaled the record created by Marcus Stoinis during the 2022 T20 World Cup. His knock was laced with 12 fours and 5 sixes, as he played powerfully and left the Scottish bowlers struggling to cope up.
In all T20s, there have only been two instances of a 150+ target being chased in less than 60 balls.

Most Runs In Power Play
The Aussies were dominant since the start of the match. Debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk fell for a duck, but Travis Head and Mitch Marsh started off with a mauling. Their partnership, scoring a world-record 113 runs in the first six overs of the powerplay, beat South Africa’s previous record of 102 runs against the West Indies last year.
Mitchell Marsh & Travis Head’s Outstanding Partnership
Mitchell Marsh played an important role with Travis Head, adding a quick 39 runs in just 12 balls. Marsh’s innings were really explosive, with five boundaries and three sixes that lifted the Australian attack immensely. Dynamic batting by the duo was underlined when 14 continuous boundaries were witnessed between over 3.5 and 6. As many as 6 fours and 2 sixes by Head and 3 fours and 3 sixes by Marsh caught the Scottish bowlers in a state of delirium.
Fastest Run Chase Of 150+ Target
The chase masters Aussies set a new record for the fastest successful chase of a 150+ target in T20Is, reaching the target in 9.2 overs. This beat Estonia’s previous record of chasing 192 runs in 13 overs against Cyprus this year.
Second Fastest Team To Reach 100 Mark In Power Play
The Australian Team reached the 100-run mark in just 5.3 overs and became the second-fastest team to do so in T20Is, equalling the record held by South Africa from the previous year.
Most Consecutive Boundaries In An Innings
The Scottish bowling unit could not weather the storm named Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head. The Australian batters put up a show where it rained only boundaries.
Australia scored boundaries off 14 consecutive balls between Overs 3.5 and 6.0 against Scotland. A RECORD!
