Earlier, he also broke Ricky Ponting’s long-standing record to become Australia’s most prolific test run scorer on Asian soil. With his consecutive test centuries, a testament to his remarkable consistency has been registered in the longest format of the game. This hundred marks is 36th in test cricket, adding to his impressive tally of 17 centuries as captain and 7 in Asia.

Steve Smith is serving as a temporary captain for the Australian squad. He surpassed Pointing’s previous record of 1889 runs on the continent. His achievement is also impressive given that he reached the record in just 42 innings maintaining an average of 51+ in Asian conditions, this stands in contrast to pointing record which was achieved in 48 innings at an average of 41.97.
