CWG 2022: In a dramatic development ahead of the women’s cricket final at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, Australia all-rounder Tahlia McGrath was allowed to play against India even after testing positive for COVID-19.
The toss was delayed after it was learned about McGraw’s health condition. Former Australia cricketer Lisa Sthalekar had commented on-air that the toss for the gold medal match was delayed by about 15 minutes as Tahlia had tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a statement issued by Cricket Australia, “Cricket Australia (CA) can confirm that Tahlia McGrath has been found positive in the Covid-19 test. McGraw is participating in the final match against India after the health staff of these Games in consultation with the Commonwealth Games Federation’s RACEG (Outcome Analysis Medical Expert Group) team and match officials.”
“McGraw showed mild symptoms on Sunday. He has been kept in the XI even after coming positive in the investigation. His participation in the final has been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC),” the statement added.
BCCI as well as team sources confirmed that India players including skipper Harmanpreet Kaur got a little upset when they came to know about McGrath.
“The team did not have time to react as it came to light at the time of the toss. Obviously there is concern in the Indian team, but it is the decision of the officials,” a BCCI official said.
