Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has had many special moments with former Indian captain MS Dhoni in both international as well as domestic cricket. Sharing the field for Chennai Super Kings as well, they have achieved some amazing feats together too.
When asked about when will he be returning to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team by a fan on his social media account, Ashwin stated that only MS Dhoni could provide an answer to that question. Since 2022, Ashwin has been a part of the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Beyond their history as teammates in the Indian cricket team, Ashwin and Dhoni have shared the field extensively in the IPL.
Ashwin initially entered the IPL under Dhoni’s captaincy in 2008, representing CSK until 2015. The following season saw the continuation of the Ashwin-Dhoni partnership, albeit for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant.

Ashwin was sidelined during the 2017 IPL season due to injury. Despite MS Dhoni’s return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the subsequent season after the team’s two-year suspension, Ashwin did not make a comeback to CSK. Instead, he went on to represent other franchises such as Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab), Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.

In contrast, Dhoni has continued to lead CSK as the team’s captain.
Ashwin stands as one of the premier active players on the international stage. Notably, he has amassed an impressive record with 490 wickets in 95 Test matches, making him the second-highest wicket-taker among active spinners, trailing only Nathan Lyon, who has secured 509 wickets.
