India’s Sumit Antil clinched the gold medal at the ongoing Hangzhou Asian Para Games in F64 event of men’s javelin throw with a world record effort of 73.29m on Wednesday.

With his 73.29m throw, the 25-year-old Antil, who is also the reigning Paralympics champion in javelin throw, broke his own world record of 70.83m to clinch the Asian Para Games gold. He had registered a throw of 70.83m at the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris to win the gold, earlier this year.

Meanwhile, another Indian, Pushpendra Singh won the bronze medal with a throw of 62.06m while Sri Lanka’s Samitha Arachchige Kodithuwakku got the silver with a throw of 64.09m.

On the other hand, Haney clinched gold with a Games record throw of 55.97 in his third attempt in the men’s javelin throw F37/38 category,

Overall, India is currently in sixth place with 43 medals including 11 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze on the third day of the ongoing Asian Para Games.

Notably, India has sent 303 athletes – 191 men and 112 women – to the fourth edition of the Asian Para Games, making it the country’s largest contingent to the continental event.

At the 2018 edition, India had sent 190 athletes and returned with 72 medals, including 15 gold, for their best performance at the quadrennial event.
