There was no goal in the first quarter of the match. Both the teams remained empty handed. After this, Akashdeep scored for India in the 19th minute. After this, captain Harmanpreet Singh scored the second goal from the penalty corner.

Then in the second quarter, Mandeep Singh scored the third goal for India. Then in the third quarter, Sunil scored the fourth goal for the team. Meanwhile in the fourth quarter, the Indian team scored the 5th goal and completely knocked Japan out of the match.
