Dubai: India has lost their fixture against Sri Lanka and thus, virtually ending its hope for reaching the final of Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai. Earlier, Men in Blue lost their first fixture of Super 4 stage against Pakistan and the defeat against hosts has ended the tournament for them.

After put to bat first, Rohit Sharma powered India put 173 runs on board but they were not enough to win against Sri Lanka. The hosts won the game on penultimate ball as Dasun Shanaka hit the ball for the final runs.

Rohit Sharma garners highest runs

India captain Rohit Sharma became the highest scorer for his side at the most crucial time of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. After a series of spectacular shots in the stadium, Sharma returned to pavilion for 72 runs.

Sri Lanka openers start strong

When Sri Lanka started the chase of 174 runs, the openers played a for a long time and garnered 97 runs for the first wickets. After the end of 11 overs, Yuzvendra Chahal clinched the first wicket and dismissed Pathum Nissanka for 52 runs. Three balls later, Chahal marked another success on Kusal Mendis but damage was done by the openers.
