CSK’s star player Ravindra Jadeja spoke for the first time about being relieved of his captaincy role in IPL 2022. Over three years ago, CSK appointed their all rounder as the new captain after MS Dhoni announced he was stepping aside as skipper. Still, their action did not pay off and CSK started with four losses, siting low on the points table. Despite bringing Dhoni back as captain after Jadeja was sacked the team was still knocked out of the playoffs race.
Ravindra Jadeja’s Statement
“It was difficult. In T20 cricket, every ball is an event. It is a fast game but for me it was an experience. I could have done better. As a captain, if you are team is not doing well then all the blame falls on the captaincy. Thinking, bowling changes, fielding chances. Unfortunately, the team was not doing well. If we were winning and everyone was contributing, then it was not rocket science,” said Jadeja on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube Channel on his flagship show ‘Kutti Stories With Ash.’
“Sometimes, normal things work, but when your players, batters and bowlers don’t contribute, you cannot win in the T20 format. I felt I could have done better, could I have done differently,” he added.

“A few days I thought, but then I realised that when batsmen and bowlers don’t contribute then everything looks negative. If you perform well, then everything looks well. This change worked. In the T20 format, batting order needs to be shuffled,” said Jadeja.
CSK’s Performance In IPL Under Ravindra Jadeja’s Captaincy
CSK lost 10 out of 14 games under Ravindra Jadeja’s captaincy in the IPL 2022 season. Due to having won just 8 games and lost 10, the season was one of the occasions where the team failed to impress which was not typical for this consistent franchise. The team faced challenges in gaining momentum and did not demonstrate their usual level of skill. Although there were some strong individual moments, the result as a whole was unsatisfactory. Their feild performance was also clear from the negative net run rate of -0.203. His period as leader wasn’t successful, making some ask questions about how long the players can be led by the same person.
