Indian seamer Arshdeep Singh left behind his Indian Premier League 2024 struggles during the T20 World Cup. Initially playing a supporting role to Jasprit Bumrah in the tournament’s first two matches, Arshdeep showcased his prowess by claiming 4 wickets for a mere 9 runs against co-hosts USA. Reflecting on his performance post-match, Arshdeep emphasized his strategy of keeping things uncomplicated and allowing his bowling to speak for itself on the challenging pitch in New York.
On Wednesday, June 12th, Arshdeep displayed exceptional form right from the outset. He dismissed opener Shayan Jahangir with his first ball of the match and continued to exert pressure thereafter. During his opening spell, the pacer also claimed the key wicket of in-form batsman Andries Gous. Arshdeep maintained his effectiveness throughout the innings, consistently taking wickets, which played a crucial role in restricting USA to a modest total of 110/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Arshdeep expressed gratitude to the Indian team for their unwavering support.

‘Very very pleased with the performance. In the last two games, I conceded a bit more runs, which I wasn’t satisfied with. The team always displays belief in me and continues to support me, so I had to deliver for them. The wicket is highly favorable for fast bowlers, enabling us to capitalize on seam movement,’ remarked Arshdeep following the match.
In response to the question, Arshdeep stated that he opted for a straightforward approach on the New York pitch, which has consistently favored fast bowlers during the tournament.
Arshdeep summarized, ‘Our plan was straightforward: pitch the ball on the wicket and let it speak for itself. We aimed to avoid giving away easy runs, especially since our own batsmen were finding it tough to score. The strategy focused on hitting hard lengths, leveraging the conditions to our advantage. In international cricket, maintaining consistent routines and prioritizing body care are crucial. I’m pleased with the bowlers’ outstanding performance and look forward to replicating it in the upcoming matches.’
