Havertz flop show in Croos & Volley challenge
Kai Havertz, who disappointed Arsenal fans in the Cross and Volley challenge during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. The German international, who joined Arsenal from his rival Chelsea for £65 million last month, failed to score single goal in his attempt, becoming the first to do so in the history of the challenge.
Rice, Timber make debut
Apart from Havertz, English midfielder Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber also made their debut for the Gunner. The pair were benched for the first half of the game at the Audi Field.
Arsenal’s outing against All-Stars
Gabriel Jesus netted the first goal for the Arsenal inside five minutes, Bukayo Saka gave perfect assist to the Brazilian as the ball came rolling toward him from the edge of the box. The 26-year-old striker made no mistake and gave the club their first breakthrough.
Saka once again showcased his talent as the Gunner took 2-0 lead against the MLS All-Star before the break. He played the key role as he passed the ball to Leandro Trossard.
After 15 seconds of the second half had been played when the referee pointed to the penalty spot, Tim Parker adjuged to have blocked Jesus’ cross with his arm. Jorginho stepped up with the usual hop and the usual outcome as he made it 3-0.
Arteta’s pivotal role
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made six changes at yesterday match, which saw Declan Rice and Timber make their first appearances for Arsenal. Both had a comfortable time of it, with Arsenal untroubled at the back and adding two more goals at the other end of the pitch.
Next assignment for Arsenal
Arsenal now turn their attention to sterner tests, with matches against Manchester United and Barcelona to come in the next week, before the Gunners return home to face Monaco and then Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 6.
