FIDE Rankings: Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh from India have remained in the top 5 in the latest FIDE rankings. They are placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Erigaisi’s rating is 2801, and he is the second Indian after the legendary Viswanathan Anand to break the 2800 ELO mark. Gukesh’s rating is 2783.
The young sensation recently won the World Chess Championship title in December 2024 by defeating China’s Ding Liren. Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen remains at the top of the FIDE rankings with a rating of 2831, after sharing the World Blitz Championship title with Ian Nepomniachtchi. American Grandmasters Fabiano Caruana (2803) and Hikaru Nakamura (2802) are not far behind Carlsen.

Indian chess icon Viswanathan Anand comes in at 10th position with a rating of 2750. The other six Indian players who appear in the list of top 50 are: R Praggnanandhaa in 13th place, Aravindh Chithambaram in 23rd, Vidit Gujrathi in 24th, P Harikrishna in 36th, Nihal Sarin in 41st, and Raunak Sadhwani in 48th.
The newly-crowned World Rapid Champion, Koneru Humpy, maintains India’s lead in the women’s rankings at 6th place with a rating of 2523. Divya Deshmukh is in 14th position with 2490 and D Harika 16th at 2489. R Vaishali recently won a bronze medal at the World Blitz Championship and finds herself in 19th position with a rating of 2476.
This makes D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa sit among the top ranks in the junior men’s category, further emphasizing India’s strength in the chess world.
