FIFA World Cup 2022: In their second Group C encounter of the 2017 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Saturday, Argentina defeated Mexico 2-0. Argentina claimed its first victory of the 2018 FIFA World Cup thanks to superstar Lionel Messi’s electrifying performance at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
Messi opened the scoring in the game’s 64th minute and then assisted Enzo Fernandez in scoring the game’s winning goal in the 87th minute for the South American powerhouses.
Argentina beat Mexico, moving them up to second place in Group C’s points standings, but they are still unsure of their Round of 16 placement. Argentina’s last Group C match is against Poland on Thursday (December 1). Argentina must win that game in order to advance because a loss will eliminate them and a draw could possibly put an end to their chances.

The math is easy. Argentina will advance to the Round of 16 if they defeat Poland and earn six points, but if they lose, they will only have three points from three games, while Poland would have seven. With 7 points, Poland will advance and take first place in Group C as well.
If the match ends in a tie, Poland will still advance, but the situation will get more complicated for Argentina because the outcome of another Group C encounter between Mexico and Saudi Arabia will determine their fate.
Saudi Arabia would have 6 points and move on along with Poland, who would have 5 points, while Argentina would be eliminated with 4 points after three games if Saudi Arabia defeated Mexico in that game.
Argentina will have to hope that Saudi Arabia doesn’t defeat them by a score of four goals or more if Mexico wins.
