The India national cricket team ended up Day 2 of IND vs AUS 5th Test at a score of 141/6 and currently lead by 145 runs in the second innings. The Indian team showcased a brilliant bowling approach on Day 2 of the Sydney Test and wrapped up the Aussies for 181 runs in the first innings in reply of their first innings score of 185 runs. With a lead of four runs, the visitors were once again troubled by the Australian bowlers wherein top batters Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli failed to deliver on the opportunity whereas Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn’t convert the start into a big score.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma opted out from the match and took a rest due to his poor form with the bat. The latter has only managed to score 31 runs from three Test as of now and there were a lot of speculations that the Boxing-Day Test was the final time his fans had seen him bat in the red-ball format. However, in an exclusive conversation with Star Sports Network, Rohit addressed a lot of topics regarding the reason behind missing out from the New Year’s Test and other issues as well. Sharma also indicated that he doesn’t have any plans of retirement and stated that the decision of not playing the IND vs AUS 5th Test was for the team as he was not in form.

The Indian team currently trail in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series by 1-2 and needs to win the Sydney Test for drawing the series. Also, it will give them a chance of making it to the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25. The year 2024 was full of ups and downs for Rohit Sharma as the latter captained India in winning the T20 World Cup for the first time after 16 years whereas it was under his leadership only when Team India got whitewashed at home by 3-0 against New Zealand.
