Another Indian cricketer has now followed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in retiring from first-class cricket. Domestic cricket veteran Priyank Panchal has decided to retire. Although Panchal was chosen for India’s Test team in different series, he wasn’t given a chance to debut in the International format. Priyank served as an opener for the country and once led India A. Karun replaced Rohit Sharma for the Test series in South Africa in 2021/22 but didn’t play a match.

Priyank competed for Gujarat in the country’s domestic tournaments. In 127 first-class games, the 35-year-old scored 8856 runs and maintained an average of 45.18. Pant has 29 centuries and 34 half-centuries to his credit. During his List A career, Priyank scored a total of 3672 runs in 97 games. He finished his List A career in December 2023. Priyank managed 1522 runs from his involvement in 59 T20 matches. He wasn’t part of any IPL franchises. Priyank joins a list of domestic legends who finished their careers without ever being selected for India.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ended Test Careers
Earlier this year, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took the decision to retire from playing Test cricket. Rohit gave up his career in red-ball cricket on May 7. Selectors supposedly informed Rohit that he won’t hold the captaincy for the team in England.
Rohit had been out of the team in the fifth Test against Australia and was always in question for the series against England. The only answer he gave was that he hadn’t retired and was still in charge of the Test team. Virat made his retirement official on May 12. India’s former international cricket captain wrote to the selection committee in April.
