WWE Backlash 2025 is scheduled for May 10, and the company is actively preparing for the event. The buildup has been impressive, with storylines developing across both RAW and SmackDown. WWE has teased a major match, and last week, the Undisputed WWE Championship bout between John Cena and Randy Orton was officially announced. Additional matches are gradually being added to the event card.
This week’s episode of RAW was particularly strong, with several storylines advancing in dramatic fashion. WWE also confirmed two more matches for Backlash 2025, both of which had been rumored since last week.
Becky Lynch vs Lyra Valkyria for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship
Last week on RAW, Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria lost the Women’s Tag Team Championships to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. After the match, Becky shocked everyone by turning heel and attacking Lyra, surprising the entire WWE Universe.
This week, Becky explained her actions, blaming both Bayley and Lyra for her turn. Lyra then challenged Becky to a match on RAW, but Becky declined, instead stating that she would face her in a title match at Backlash 2025. Later, Lyra attacked Becky backstage. Becky retaliated shortly afterward on the entrance ramp. WWE quickly made the Women’s Intercontinental Championship match between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria official for Backlash 2025.

Gunther vs Pat McAfee Confirmed for Backlash 2025
At WrestleMania 41, Gunther lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso. Still angry over the defeat, Gunther lashed out on RAW last week, attacking commentators Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. Both were left badly hurt.
On this week’s RAW, Pat McAfee addressed the incident, saying he had no choice but to defend Michael Cole. He called Gunther out to the ring, but instead, General Manager Nick Aldis appeared. Aldis offered McAfee a match against Gunther at Backlash 2025. McAfee accepted, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown between the two.
