The former India skipper Anil Kumble talks about the young South African teenager Dewald Brevis the new star player of CSK in his interview with JioHotstar. In his interview he highlighted Brevis’ combination of skills and temperament alongside his competence in different playing conditions. Brevis started out the IPL season as a replacement who did not belong to the initial CSK lineup. His mid-season injury replacement led to quick success in the CSK team. Brevis scored 42 runs from 25 balls when he made his IPL debut against the SRH team.
Anil Kumble’s Views On Brevis
“His ability to play spin really stood out. In Chennai, it isn’t easy. It’s a two-paced wicket where the odd ball holds up. He’s done it before in South Africa, in first-class cricket, and at the U-19 level, which is how he came into the IPL. Brevis has all the shots. With Rachin Ravindra, Mhatre, and Pathirana, CSK has a young core to build on. Brevis has the potential to be a long-term asset for the franchise,” Kumble said.
Dewald Brevis’s Performance In His Debut Match
In his debut match for CSK, he delivered an impressive performance, scoring 42 runs off just 25 balls, including five boundaries (one four and four sixes). He showed great potential to secure a win for CSK, so much so that SRH’s head coach, Daniel Vettori, praised Harshal Patel for taking his wicket. Vettori called it the game-changing catch of the match, which shifted the momentum away from CSK and led SRH to victory by 5 wickets.
