The Indian cricket team, which is being led by Rohit Sharma in the Tests, is faced with an unenviable situation in the Test series against New Zealand.
India was bowled out for 224 runs within three days to lose the first Test played in Bengaluru, and matters have further worsened for India with New Zealand reaching a big lead without losing even one wicket inside three days in the second Test played in Pune.
Sunil Gavaskar Urges Focus On Current Series
In light of these challenges, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar called for attention to the series at hand rather than the India vs. Australia Test series scheduled to start on November 22. Commentating on the second day of the second Test, Dinesh Karthik raised the issue of the Australia series, prompting Gavaskar to reply.

“Don’t talk about Australia now. That’s a mistake many people often make,” said Gavaskar while commentating. “You have to think of what’s going on now. Your minds must only be on now. Australia will look after itself when the time comes.”
The Importance Of Immediate Focus
He further says that, when the players are concentrating on the game, the external factors are particularly the media, who are creating distractions by talking about the Australia series. “There’s excessive coverage about what’s going to happen in Australia,” he observed. “Australian players keep commenting on the Indian team and suggesting who should be in the lineup. Nobody asks us about the Australian team.”.
